Just Another Day In SouthLA
Downtown is slated for new billion dollar tower that may rise to be the second tallest building in downtown. Korean Air has proposed to build a 65 story residential and hotel tower along with a 45 story office tower on the site of what is now Wilshire Grand Hotel. The billion dollar project cleared its first hurdle and is closer to breaking down after LA approved the EIR for the project.
The council unanimously granted a series of entitlements for the proposed 560-room Wilshire Grand Hotel, including permission to sell alcohol at 21 restaurants, bars and other venues, installation of a rooftop helicopter landing pad and a reduction in the number of parking spaces from 2,375 to 1,900.
Korean Air, the developer of the project, plans to demolish the existing hotel at Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street and replace it with the two towers. The developer also proposed a sign district, the initial plan was to have LCD advertisement on a large side of both buildings, however I believe that has been scaled down and still awaiting approval.
