Just Another Day In SouthLA

HBCU of the Month: Hampton University

[UPDARTE] SouthLA is excited to begin honoring the great institutions that have educated some of the most successful and most intelligent African Americans in the World.  Although these schools have been often overlooked, even by some African Americans, these colleges and universities have continued to persevere thru harsh criticism  and financial woes when these very schools gave the chance that many (at a certain time) would have not provided, and for that, SouthLA thanks all HBCUs and ask that you continue educating and producing Professionals that you do.

As the first HBCU of the Month I choose none other than my very own, Hampton University.  Hampton is nestled on the Southeast corner of Virginia where it sits on approx 230 acres and is sided by water on 3 different sides (Yes my Dorm Room had an Ocean View).  Hampton University is a private university in Hampton, Va., and one of the nation’s best-known historically black college. It offers bachelor’s degrees in 52 areas, master’s degrees in 21 subjects and doctoral programs in physics, physical therapy, nursing and pharmacy.

More about Hampton U:

“While our roots reach deep into the history of this nation and the African-American experience, our sights – like yours – are set squarely on the horizons of the global community of the 21st century.

Rich in history, steeped in tradition, Hampton University is a dynamic, progressive institution of higher education, providing a broad range of technical, liberal arts, and graduate degree programs. In addition to being one of the top historically black universities in the world, Hampton University is a tightly-knit community of learners and educators, representing 49 states and 35 territories and nations.”
