Just Another Day In SouthLA

South Bay Boulevards Going Outlet Mall

The developer of the Boulevards at South Bay project in Carson is altering its plans for the former landfill site to include an outlet mall instead of a traditional retail mall.  When complete, the Boulevards at South Bay development will include the outlet mall, a movie theater, up to 1,550 for-sale residential units, 400 rental units, up to 400 hotel beds, big box retail, office space, and restaurants.  The project broke ground back in 2008 but the developer has taken all the precautions to to transform the once landfill into a live play work oasis.  The outlet mall would join the Citadel Outlets in nearby Commerce as the second outlet mall in the LA area not on the way to Santa Barbara or Palm Springs.  The project’s required cleanup work is getting $81 million in financial help from the city, and “Most of those funds come from property tax increments paid to the city’s former Redevelopment Agency.
