Cricket in Compton

compton cricket

If you haven’t noticed Compton is in the midst of renaissance with real estate and community development projects taking place all over town.  But in the latest news to us, old news to Compton residents, Compton has a Cricket team, Compton Cricket Club, and its been up and running since 1997.  Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of 11 players on a field at the center of which is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. Each team takes it in turn to bat, attempting to score runs, while the other team fields, almost like an English version of Baseball.  CCC was born in downtown Los Angeles’s Dome Village before migrating to Compton where it changed a community.  Early cricket was at some time or another described as “a club striking a ball (like) the ancient games of club-ball, stool-ball, trap-ball, stob-ball. Cricket can definitely be traced back to Tudor times in early 16th-century England. Prince Edward  has even acknowledged the CCC, setting up match between them and Windsor Palace staff.
