So its official we are getting stadium. Not to along ago MLS closed the door on the struggling Chivas USA team down in Carson, however now the Leagues is introducing the “Los Angeles Football Club” and LA’s newest soccer team. The LAFC is partly owned by actor Will Ferrell. LAFC is proposing a $250 Million Stadium where the LA Sports Arena currently sits, and it looks like they will have their way. City Council gave their approval to the Los Angeles Football Club to build their proposed 22,000-seat, open-air stadium.
The Gensler-designed, soccer-specific stadium, being developed by the LAFC, will bring 100,000 square feet of new restaurants, a soccer museum with it and right a cross the street a proposed hotel and student housing developement has been in talks. It’s expected to be ready in time for the start of the LAFC’s 2018 season. The venue will rise on the grave of the Sports Arena, which is scheduled to begin demolition this summer.
