I would like to thank all the participants for opening their yards and sharing them with us. See you guys again in 2020! Check some of the Vendors below.

I would like to applaud the maginifecent floral design and retirate how awe struck I was while attending the Windsor Hills, View Park, Ladera Heights 2014 Spring Garden Tour. The eclectic landscape design of the gardens was amazing. The beauty of these gardens was very relaxing and tranquil. The Vendor Fair, which takes places Monteith Park in View Park, was in full swing by the time I arrived and it was jam packed with extremely creative and talented people right here from our own communities. I met several very creative vendors, Mira, Loni, Cynthia, and Rhoda. Mira was in the middle of creating something awesome. Mira says she been painting all her life and says she “derives her inspiration on creating positive images of women.” Loni, whos been painting for 15 years has a more abstract style. He’s been known as Black Picasso. Loni recreates forms and shapes and dubs his style a classy culture. Cynthia, another vendor, who works with gourds, yea gourds, isn’t that awesome. Cynthia who was inspired by her mother, uses every bit of the gourds. She makes purse, bowls, magnets, vases, leather cuffs, and more. Rhoda, who has a high love for gardening and succulents created and sold vertical gardens. Rhoda also is the Founder of “The Factory, Inspirational Yard Art & Garden Artistry by Rhoda.” I also had the privelage of meeting the the Ladera Heights Girls Scout Troop who educated me on earthquakes and how to prepare for them. The Ladera Heights Girl Scouts are working toward the hightest badge ther is for Juniors, the bronze badge so Good Luck Girls!!! Check out the pictures I was able to snap of yet again another awesome Garden Tour, see you guys again in 2016! Streetscape Improvements: After additional community feedback and analysis, it was decided that the three travel lanes in each direction on Slauson Avenue will remain. This will allow meaningful improvements to be done quickly and cost-effectively, while minimizing traffic impacts. Substantial improvements, including a bicycle route, raised landscaped medians, pedestrian lighting, and improvements to the parkway including benches and landscaping, will be made in order to improve the public right-of-way and create a pedestrian-friendly environment. Public Works has selected a consultant, KOA Corporation, to design the project and will hold a meeting in early 2014 to obtain input from the community regarding the style and types of parkway improvements.
Community Business Revitalization Program: More than half a million dollars have been allocated Community Business Revitalization Program for small business owners on the south side of the street to make improvements to their facades. The businesses will receive new paint, window and awning replacement, extra lighting and improved signage. While the opportunity was offered to the business owners on the north side of the street, they declined to participate. The program is entirely funded with grants, and the improvements are set to begin early next year.
Sooooo there was a Baldwin Hills Reservoir where Kenneth Hahn Recreational Park currently resides, well somehow a break in one of the sides gave way eventually leading to five deaths, did you know that? Back in 1963 at the top of Baldwin Hills sat a large reservoir (filled with water) that (they say) was constructed wrong in an environment with seismic activity going on. Well sent to us from the Office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, there seems to be a 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Dam Failure. Well the celebration seems to come from the formation of the Baldwin Hills Park Lands, not the 5 people that died in the wake of the dam breaking and water raging down the hill at extremely high speeds. Well save the date, Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Janice’s Green Valley 11am – 4pm (the former dam site) in Kenneth Hahn Park.

Founded by Dr. Tanitra Flenaugh, the Ladera Heights Music Academy opend shop on 4912 West Slauson Ave, LA 90056 last April. Dr. Flenaugh wanted make sure the communities of Ladera Heights, Inglewood, Windsor Hills & Baldwin Hills communities had access to affordable and excellent music classes. “Every week, the academy is adding more classes to accommodate new students,” stated by an academy spokesperson. The academy offers piano, violin, drums, voice, and guitar classes for students ranging from three years old to senior citizens. Parents can also sign up for MusicTogether classes with their infants. I’m so glad that individuals are taking it upon themselves to make sure the youth of today still access to music that seems to be slowly by taking out of inner city schools.
