SouthLA Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years SouthLA

“Deck Crenshaw with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la!” It’s Holiday Time in South Los Angeles, and we’re shaping up pretty well if I may say so myself.  There are a slew of events being putting on around town from Tree Lightings’ to Toy Give Aways’.   Councilmember Parks hosted the 10th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and holiday concert on Monday, November 26 on Crenshaw Blvd.  Organized the first year of Councilmen Parks term, the free family oriented event has become a tradition within the SouthLA community.  Over to Baldwin Hills,  My Mother’s Order of the Eastern Star Group passed out meals and toys at Holiday Festival this past Saturday.   Formally known as Christmas in November, the Holiday Festival is hosted by Children Youth and Family Collaborative at Rancho Cienaga Park next to Dorsey.   Continue reading

And Now Introducing, South Bay, Los Angeles County!

The sleepy southwestern edge of Los Angeles county known as the South Bay is finally getting some much needed attention.  As everyone knows Los Angeles as a whole is nothing more than urban sprawl with little pocket cities here and there, well the South Bay region of LA County is a very suburban urban sprawl (almost like if someone took a chunk of Orange County and put it in LA County) that is often over looked, well Continue reading

Torrance Opened 2 New Bus Routes

South Bay is finally connecting to the rest of LA County.  Last week Torrance Transit opened two new bus routes connecting the South Bay to Downtown Long Beach and South Bay to Downtown Los Angeles.  The new route, Line 4 (which is not on the map yet  for some reason), will offer rapid service between South Bay to Downtown Los Angeles, while Line 3, will offer rapid service between the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach to Downtown Long Beach.  Fare along all routes consist of $1 and $2 for the DTLA Rapid Line 4.

Torrance Signs Off On $21 Million Transit Center

The City of Torrance down in the South Bay region of LA County has finalized on a $21 Million rendition of a regional transit center on Crenshaw Blvd.  The City Council signed off on the 16,500 square foot structure that will hopefully host a stop on the Green Line extension down though South Bay.  The design features the same canopy design seen at The Home Depot Center in Carson.  Officially dubbed the Torrance Transit Park and Ride Regional Terminal, the 15-acre site will have room for 300 cars in a surface parking lot and serve as a transit hub for the South Bay.  The new transit center is strategically located so that an extension of the Green Line will eventually connect with local bus lines at the location.
