Plans For A New Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall
Remember in 2012 I told yall there were plans to do a complete overhaul of the current Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall, to bring the mall more out the street and make it more pedestrian friendly as well as add hotels and condos galore, well I wasn’t lying! Here are some conceptual designs of what the area is to come of and some are saying it may make the area a 24 hour community. With the stop at King and Crenshaw off the Crenshaw Line, an underground portal will connect the mall to the Crenshaw Line and I think Capri Capital Partners (mall owners and developers) wants to capitalize off that. They are planning to add over 2 million square feet of new retail, hotel, offices, condos, and apartment space, completely transforming the current image/idea of the mall. I believe these plans also incorporate developing Marlton Square as well. And At Santa Rosalia and Stocker, the plans is to put up a 12-story hotel tower with 400 rooms.
Curbed LA:
“Developers/mall-owners Capri Capital Partners are planning a separate “pedestrian-oriented retail village” where Stocker Street meets Crenshaw; it would have a collection of one- and two-story restaurants and stores grouped around a wide pedestrian paseo that would connect shoppers to the mall. The area would be liberally landscaped; from the renderings, it looks so similar to a Grove-like shopping center that you can almost hear the piped-in music. Though there are definitely pedestrian-friendly elements at work here, don’t fret, drivers: there will also be plenty of parking. Despite new subway access right at its front door, at MLK Jr. Boulevard and Crenshaw, there will be 7,000 parking spots split between the two sections of the site.”
Well lets see how this pans out.

VICTORIA’S SECRET COMING TO BALDWIN HILLS CRENSHAW
The brand’s first South LA chain to open Fall 2014
LOS ANGELES (May 6, 2014) – Following the recent major renovation of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw, another prominent brand will be added to the mall’s expanding lineup of top retailers and restaurants. Victoria’s Secret, the nation’s leading lingerie brand, will be opening their first store in South Los Angeles this fall.
The 8,509-square-foot store will be located on the ground floor of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw (BHC), directly across from the main entrance. It will feature the brand’s newest store format, offering a full range of its signature lingerie loungewear and beauty products. The store will feature a combined Victoria’s Secret and PINK retail concept.
Victoria’s Secret will join a growing list of women’s apparel and beauty retailers at BHC, which currently includes Macy’s, Forever 21, Claire’s and Lane Bryant. The shopping center is planning a celebration for the grand opening of the store this fall, complete with giveaways.
“Our team is thrilled to have one of the world’s most recognizable fashion brands open a brand new storefront here at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw,” said Ken Lombard, Vice Chairman – Investments & Partner at Capri Capital Partners, the owner of the shopping mall. “We are proud to partner with top caliber tenants like Victoria’s Secret, which I am certain will be a popular addition to our growing roster of retailers.”
After undergoing a $40 million top-to-bottom renovation—the largest mall construction project in Los Angeles in 2011— BHC has reemerged as the one of the most popular malls in the city’s urban core. The upgrade included the addition of state-of-the-art movie theaters, over 100 specialty stores, several restaurants headed by some of the city’s leading chefs, a dining court with a seating area for children, a new outdoor promenade and updated signage and facilities throughout the property.
“We constantly strive to improve the shopping experience at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw by responding to feedback and working to bring in new retailers that our customers and the community want to see here at the mall,” said Sharron King, BHC General Manager. “We are confident that the addition of Victoria’s Secret will be very well received and that we’ll see long lines of customers in the new store come opening day this fall.”

Convey Your Opinion On Kaisers Marlton Square Development
Last week I attend a Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills community meeting focusing on the ‘coming soon’ Kaiser Permenante Medical Offices planned for a portion of Marlton Square. There were alot of mixed emotions regarding the development, mainly on making sure the building is aesthetically appealing to the community. Now you will have to email Damien Goodmon to get the details exactly but from what I was able to derive the plans that were/are being consider actually do not adhere to, I forget what the actual name was but basically a specific plan that lays out how development is to be done in ‘The District’. Like I said, don’t quote, but its something to that degree. I know a major problem that community touched upon was the large open space in the middle of the development VS the amount of parking lots. One of the main arguements was that the green space should be in front of the building, with the building and two side parking lots pushed back. Well take a look at the plans and formulate your opinions, then email them to Kaiser Permenante Project Representative, Skyler Denniston, Skyler.X.Denniston@kp.org.
