Metro Is Launching a Universal Pass Pilot Program in South LA This Summer

What if you could use the same transit pass to access a bike, scooter, car, train or bus?

L.A. Metro is rolling out a program that will allow users to do just that in South LA starting next summer. The pilot includes a “mobility wallet,” an integration with TAP (transit access pass) that enables riders to use the same card to access multiple mobility options in the area.

The pilot — the first to put a “universal basic mobility” (UBM) approach into practice in the city — is being rolled out with the help of the L.A. Department of Transportation (LA DOT), Uber Transit, TAP, BlueLA and Curb Mobility.

L.A. Metro announced the news at a workshop at this year’s CoMotion LA conference on technology and transportation. .

The pilot is one of the projects funded through a $7 million grant from the California Air Resources Board and will focus on an area roughly bounded by Crenshaw and Alameda and Florence and the 10 in South LA.

Inglewood Where’s Yo Metro?

Inglewood Fails in attempts to create Monorail/People Mover

No Downtown Inglewood stop, doesn’t connect to Green Line, that’s now consider the C Line, What the H is going on in City hall. Inglewood announced back in 2018 that they were creating a Monorail-like system that would runs 1.6 miles, from Market Street/Florence station to Sofi Stadium with only one other stop which is in front of the Forum. It won’t even connect with the anticipated Clippers Intuit Dome, major fail Inglewood, major fail. First off, this should have been constructed as the Sofi Stadium was being built. Have you been to a Rams/Chargers game, are trying to travel thru Inglewood on a Game Night, yea don’t do that. Mayor Butts has secured $380 million for the project but is relying on the infrastructure bill to provide sufficient funding for that project that is exceeding $1 billion. But why no stop at Manchester and Market? Century and Prairie?

While construction was originally anticipated to occur over a 45-month period between 2022 and 2026, the revised project is expected to be built over a period of 46 months between January 2024 and November 2027.

Ground Breaking for Inglewood People Mover pushed back to 2024

Crenshaw Line Almost Complete!

LA Metro Crenshaw/LAX K Line | Westchester/Veterans Station Construction - YouTube

Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX Transit Line is 99% according to CEO Stephanie Wiggins. After a series of delays the line is moving closer to opening. The $2.1 billion project, is slated to start service in 2022 is finaly nearing completion. The 8.5 mile light rail line will connect LAX to……well eventually to Hollywood but for now I guess just to the Expo, but that’s still good. The Crenshaw Line won’t actually connect with LAX but Metro is currently building a $900 Million People Mover to connect the Light Rail to LAX directly. Emphasizing the significance of the Crenshaw/LAX Line, Wiggins insisted,

“This is our top priority. We are working tirelessly to get this project done. We are listening. We value yourpartnership throughout this process and going forward.  We really believe the Crenshaw/LAX, once opened, will be a jewel that everyone will be proud of – the community, businesses and residents alike.”

The route consist of eight stations, four at-grade and three underground. The Expo/Crenshaw, Martin Luther King Jr. and Leimert Park Stations are underground, there was at one time talk about building a entrance to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall. The train starts at the Aviation station on the Green Line, now the “C Line” passes by LAX, into Westchester, Inglewood, Hyde Park, Crenshaw’s Park Mesa Community and ends at the Expo line.

On October 1, the Crenshaw/LAX Line initiated Photo Enforcement Program, which aims to reduce train and vehicle collisions and improve safety on the boulevard for motorists and pedestrians. Motorists who disobey traffic signals will be cited an average cost of $100 along with penalties and assessments. Cameras will be monitoring left-turn movements crossings on Crenshaw Blvd, so beware!

Crenshaw Line Moving Right Along

IMG_20150319_100153

Construction on the Crenshaw LAX Line is moving right along.  Major road closures proceed as construction crews dig massive holes 24/7 for the subway portion for the light rail line.  This means great things for our neighborhood (as well as horrible traffic and a lots of closed urban businesses) but as I speak with my constituents, we all seem to worry about the same thing, the effects of gentrification that is going to come along with this light rail line and the effects it will have on our neighborhood.  Well while I was on break, I was able to grab a couple (as well as get some nice construction workers) to grab some up close pictures of the gargantuous hole being dug out for the Crenshaw/King subway stop (that’s suppose to have an underground entrance to the mall).  There is also a massive whole at Vernon and Crenshaw, the Leimert Park Station, and Expo and Crenshaw.  Expo/Crenshaw’s subway station stop, which will be the last stop of phase I of the Crenshaw Line, (phase II is suppose to remain underground and continue all the way to Hollywood and will take humpteen years to be built) will be covered by the massive Crenshaw DIstrict Square development, that I assume they will break ground on once the subway stop is completed.  Expo/Crenshaw station stop is who is all super secretive and being blocked by massive gates/tarps/”Eat Shop Play Crenshaw” banners. Construction is scheduled to continue well into 2018 so please take note of all road closures.

West Carson To Receive A Regional Transit Hub

West Carson is getting some well needed attention with the announcement of a Regional Hub and even talk about building a community around it.  West Carson is slated to become Eastern South Bay’s regional transportation hub near the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (I believe Torrance is building one too).  The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a state grant that will use $491,770 develop a plan aimed at improving transportation, sustainability and increase housing in the area.  The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning will  create a master plan that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by developing a sustainable community project within a ½ mile radius of the West Carson Metro station.
