Vermont Entertainment Center Development – South LA

sla12

Councilmen Bernard Parks announced and hosted a ground breaking this week for a massive entertainment development at Vermont Ave and Manchester Ave.  From the renderings it seems to be a promenade type shopping/entertainment center.  Hopefully this will be a catalysts for the development in the area.  This area was impacted hard from the riots  in the early 90’s and has remained a blighted area ever since so seeing this development be initiated definitely brings hope for the area.  The project is being lead by Councilmember Bernard C. Parks and Sassony Properties.  The development is slated for completion winter of 2016.

Crenshaw District Square Moving Right Along

Ret_District-Square_011

Some time back I notified you guys of Crenshaw District Square project at Crenshaw and Exposition, well after years of delay, the project is in full motion.  District Square represents a new era within the Crenshaw District.  What was home to the neighborhood old Ralph’s and Cameo Cleaners, which was blighted with asbestos, is being transformed into a 300,000 square foot shopping center, designed by the Irvine-based KTGY Group and The Charles Company.  The project will bring a variety of large chain retailers to the Crenshaw neighborhood. The multi-level development will contain retail and parking on the ground level, retail on the second level, and parking on the roof.  Because this is a multi-level development, vertical transportation is an important component of the project and it will include elevators, escalators and cartilators to handle the movement of people and shopping carts. Segregated ramping is provided in the design to accommodate both private vehicle access and service truck access. Shade/trellis structures at the roof level parking will provide shade and landscaping opportunities.  The project is expected to include a Target, Ross, Marshall’s and leasing space for other vendors and retailers.  KGTY website gives no information on the project’s timeline or budget, but by the way the project is moving along I am predicting a completion date of 2 years, provide no budge issues arise.

VICTORIA’S SECRET COMING TO BALDWIN HILLS CRENSHAW
The brand’s first South LA chain to open Fall 2014

LOS ANGELES (May 6, 2014) – Following the recent major renovation of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw, another prominent brand will be added to the mall’s expanding lineup of top retailers and restaurants. Victoria’s Secret, the nation’s leading lingerie brand, will be opening their first store in South Los Angeles this fall.

The 8,509-square-foot store will be located on the ground floor of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw (BHC), directly across from the main entrance. It will feature the brand’s newest store format, offering a full range of its signature lingerie loungewear and beauty products. The store will feature a combined Victoria’s Secret and PINK retail concept.

Victoria’s Secret will join a growing list of women’s apparel and beauty retailers at BHC, which currently includes Macy’s, Forever 21, Claire’s and Lane Bryant. The shopping center is planning a celebration for the grand opening of the store this fall, complete with giveaways.

“Our team is thrilled to have one of the world’s most recognizable fashion brands open a brand new storefront here at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw,” said Ken Lombard, Vice Chairman – Investments & Partner at Capri Capital Partners, the owner of the shopping mall. “We are proud to partner with top caliber tenants like Victoria’s Secret, which I am certain will be a popular addition to our growing roster of retailers.”

After undergoing a $40 million top-to-bottom renovation—the largest mall construction project in Los Angeles in 2011— BHC has reemerged as the one of the most popular malls in the city’s urban core. The upgrade included the addition of state-of-the-art movie theaters, over 100 specialty stores, several restaurants headed by some of the city’s leading chefs, a dining court with a seating area for children, a new outdoor promenade and updated signage and facilities throughout the property.

“We constantly strive to improve the shopping experience at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw by responding to feedback and working to bring in new retailers that our customers and the community want to see here at the mall,” said Sharron King, BHC General Manager. “We are confident that the addition of Victoria’s Secret will be very well received and that we’ll see long lines of customers in the new store come opening day this fall.”
